ACREA Banners & Procession 2017-2019
The Cassandras were 9 tall black costumed figures with silver heads designed by Alice Maher and myself with students from the MA in Social Practice at Limerick School of Art and Design in advance of the Repeal! Procession. We conceived The Cassandras as figures of mourning and of rage, referencing the 1977 'In Mourning and in Rage' a work of performance art and activism by Suzanne Lacy and Leslie Labowitz in LA.The Cassandras are also mysterious forms that represent transcendence and refer to the Cassandra of Greek mythology, a woman cursed to utter true prophecies, but never to be believed. The students performed the figures in the Procession, moving with slow grace and elegance.
