The Lost Runway London 2010
Performer: Holly James
This project is the public performance of private experience and the private expression of public memories
A live personal monument worn on the body, remembering Lost Girls
We are telling human lives
The past present and future meet
In 2005, the United Nations produced an estimate for how many women could be "missing": 200 million.
They are not lost, but dead: victims of violence, discrimination and neglect.
Around the world, Women are lost because their lives are un-valued.
The Lost Runway acclaims some of these lives through garments worn as a form of memorial and as a form of testament, in admiration, in honour of...to personify and to make a portrait of female dignity and elegance
“ I asked your father to let me move the kitchen into the living room. And he said to me: “woman, in all the houses the first room in the house is the living room”, I insisted and put the sink in the big window that looks out over the street, where I now wash the dishes. I could not tell him that in this place, daily, I look out the window, where one day I hope to see you return. This is the reason for the change, so I could wash the dishes and then my tears mix with the water and go down the drain”. Martina Albeldado, in a letter to her daughter. 2002
