ACT ART 4, Club Central Station Kings Cross, London 5th May 2006
Eyeless is a performance of vulnerability and exposure, psychological blindness and intimate connection with others via touch and voice. I am neatly dressed, navigating my way 'blind' through the audience, for four hours, with eyes closed and graphic PAINTED EYES stuck onto my lids. The venue is a three floor club/bar context which gradually fills with more and more people as the night progresses. Various other performances and video screenings are taking place simultaneously. People speak to me and touch me continually, but in a gentle, enquiring and curious way. My vulnerability carries with it a sort of power - nobody exploits it.
During the performance, I can't see where I am going, I must very slowly touch and hold architecture, surfaces and the bodies of people I encounter... It is an offering and an act of surrender.
