Flowing Body
Peripheral Visions Video Exhibition & Symposium

18-20th November 2005

Description:
Flowing Body is a video work (duration 1.5 minutes) representing the image of water erupting from and onto my body, ambiguously issuing from a spring inside or flowing onto it. In the final image, a fountain spouts in the solar plexus. I made this work to express longing, the feeling of desire. I always imagined desire to be a flowing thing, washing over me or through me. It is a creative and moving force.

The work is the expression of a fluid eroticism symbolised by water. The water is pleasure, the sheet is my skin and the bed is my body. Women experience sexual response as a 'wetness' and I wanted to make a female image to represent the power of sex. Equal but different to phallic power.

Flowing Body is an expression of female maternal experience and the breaking waters of birth. Ceaseless water flows from an internal source. Longing and release, pouring out emotion and the desire for inundation are all streamed in the work.
